We should not underestimate the importance of choosing the right lighting for the interior. We usually choose a chandelier for a long time and do not want to change it right away. During this entire time, it plays a very important role in our home. It is a source of light. It creates the appearance and atmosphere of the room. And last but not least, it significantly affects how we will feel at home.
First and foremost, we select the chandelier based on the room it is intended for. Each room requires a different intensity of light. In living rooms, kitchens, and dining areas, we choose lighting with a higher output compared to bedrooms and hallways. We also need to consider the furnishings and wall colors of the room, whether they are in light or dark shades. Based on that, we choose the intensity of light.
The size of the room is one of the most important factors. In spacious living rooms, you can choose larger and more extravagant models that will become dominant elements. On the contrary, in smaller rooms, it is advisable to select smaller yet no less impressive chandeliers that do not overwload the space and still provide adequate lighting. If the central lighting in the room is insufficient, it can be supplemented with floor lamps, wall lamps, or table lamps.
Â
The height of the ceiling is another important factor to consider. In rooms with low ceilings, it is better to choose ceiling-mounted chandeliers that do not disrupt the space and will not obstruct movement, avoiding a feeling of crampedness. On the other hand, with high ceilings, it is suitable to hang the chandelier lower using a metal chain. If the chandelier is suspended freely in space, we must ensure it does not obstruct movement. The chandelier should be hung at least 200 cm above the floor. Over a conference or dining table, the chandelier can be hung lower, approximately 170 cm above the floor.
Â
The style of your interior should also influence your chandelier selection. If you have a modern, minimalist style, choose a modern chandelier with clean lines and simple shapes. Conversely, for traditional or vintage interiors, classic arm or basket crystal chandeliers are suitable, adding a touch of elegance and nostalgia to the space. Remember that the chandelier should harmonize with other elements in the room, such as wall colors, furniture, and decorations.
Â
It may happen that the central lighting fixture is insufficient to light the entire room. In this case, it’s appropriate to supplement the chandelier with additional lighting, such as floor lamps, wall lamps, or table lamps, which can enhance the central source of light.
